Friarton Bridge Opening Delayed, Impacting Traffic and Construction Industry.
The Friarton Bridge in Perth, set to open in September 1978, faced delays due to unexpected ground conditions, bad weather, strikes, and late steel deliveries. The bridge spans 831 meters, with the main river span being 174 meters long. The superstructure consists of two steel box girders supporting a concrete road deck. Design challenges were simplified by dividing the deck into two separate box girder bridges.
