Ammonia released from swine manure is a big issue in Iowa. A study tested different ways to reduce this ammonia release. They tried separating urine and feces, keeping the manure cool and still, adding yucca extract, and making the manure more acidic. These methods all helped to lower the amount of ammonia that went into the air.
