Intraregional migration threat to Amazon forest can be reduced through sustainable farming.
Small farmers in the Brazilian Amazon are causing deforestation, mainly due to migration within the region. To stop this, sustainable farming practices need to be established in already deforested areas. This will help prevent further migration and deforestation. The book reviews population and economic shifts in the Amazon during the 1980s, discusses land markets and sustainable farming, and addresses policy implications for sustainable settlement in the region.
