Acid rain could be leaching harmful metals into groundwater.
The study looked at how metals move through sandy soil in Coastal Georgia. They tested two types of water to see which one released more metals from the soil. Both waters released major metals like calcium and magnesium, but potassium stayed the same. The soil had a lot of potassium feldspar. Trace metals like nickel and zinc were also released, with different patterns in the two types of water. This shows how acid rain can move metals from the soil into the groundwater.
