Limited social science research hindering integrated development of marine fisheries in India.
The article discusses the importance of social science research in improving marine fisheries management. It highlights the need for more research to help increase fish production, secure income, and provide employment opportunities. The current pace of social science research in this area is limited, with a lack of systematic analytical studies. While fishery policy and planning in India have led to growth in fish production and exports, there is little information on improving the socio-economic conditions of fishermen. Without regular evaluation of planning strategies and implementation, desired results cannot be achieved. The article emphasizes the importance of problem-oriented research to integrate with fisheries planning and strengthen social science research capacity for better marine fisheries development and management.
