Repeated floods reshape riverbeds, impacting sediment transport and natural hazards.
The study looked at how floods affect the movement of gravel in a steep channel. They did 200 floods in a small flume with gravel and measured the slope and gravel movement after each flood. They found that the slope and gravel movement changed in a pattern over time. At first, the slope decreased and the gravel movement had big peaks, but then it leveled out. Bars formed when a lot of gravel moved, and when less gravel moved, the bars filled up.
