Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers reveal alarming sediment pollution levels.
The Tennessee Valley Authority collected sediment data from rivers in the Tennessee and Cumberland River basins starting in the 1930s. They set up daily record stations on major rivers and conducted studies on small watersheds. In the Cumberland River basin, sediment data was primarily collected by the Survey. Daily stations were operated in various basins, with the earliest data from 1953. Periodic sediment data was collected at many stations, but most had fewer than 30 samples. Overall, the data collected provides valuable information on sediment levels in these river basins.
