The European Cross-Border Information System for Rail Freight, known as CroBIT, aims to improve rail freight traffic in Europe by connecting all freight railways along transport corridors. Participants input information into the system and receive valuable data about wagons and consignments in return. CroBIT combines information about consignments, wagons, and trains, with demonstrations conducted in Portugal and between Italy and Finland. Rail cargo operators benefit the most from using CroBIT, with positive policy and socio-economic impacts. The system will be operated by railway and IT service companies, potentially leading to a market-oriented service company called RISE that earns revenue from added value information services.
