The urban heat island effect in Huntsville, Alabama is caused by changes in the city's surface and atmosphere, making urban areas hotter than rural ones. This study used NASA data and GIS technology to analyze how population, land use, and topography affect the shape of the heat island. The research found that these factors play a significant role in determining the extent and intensity of the urban heat island in Huntsville.
