Historic Williamstown-Marietta Bridge Replaced to Prevent Potential Disaster.
The Williamstown-Marietta Bridge, connecting West Virginia and Ohio, was replaced due to being old and unsafe. A new bridge was designed to replace the old one, with the same location and using existing piers when possible. The preferred location was chosen because it best served the transportation needs of the communities. Leaving the old bridge in place without maintenance could have posed a hazard to shipping.
