Polychaete Worms Dominate Sandy Bottoms, Impacting Ecosystem Balance
The researchers studied the distribution of small sea creatures in sandy areas near Kangrung, Korea. They looked at different seasons from 1993 to 1994. They found that there were between 70 and 109 species of these creatures, with worms being the most common. The number of creatures varied throughout the year, with more in summer. The main types of creatures were worms, mollusks, and crustaceans. The creatures were grouped into two types based on water depth. Near small rivers, the community of creatures was different in autumn and winter.
