Calgary's New Bridge Design Sets Standard for Future Infrastructure Projects.
The University Drive/Crowchild Trail Bridge in Calgary, Alberta was replaced with a new superstructure made of steel girders and a concrete deck slab. This new bridge is the first of its kind to use a steel free deck system, meaning it was designed and built without internal mild steel reinforcement. Instead, external steel straps and internal fibre reinforced plastic bars were used to strengthen the deck. The researchers detailed their analysis, design procedures, and construction methods for this innovative bridge.
