Optimal nitrogen levels boost maize growth and yield on salt affected soils.
The study looked at how two types of maize plants grow in soil with salt, depending on the amount of nitrogen used. One type of maize, Pioneer 32B33, grew better and produced more than the other type, Dekalb 979. Adding more nitrogen than recommended helped the plants grow more leaves and produce more food through photosynthesis. The best amount of nitrogen for the plants was 225 kg per hectare.
