Hypoxic conditions in Chinhae Bay threaten benthic community diversity.
The researchers studied the community of animals living in Chinhae Bay over three years. They found that polychaetes, a type of worm, were the most common animals in the bay, followed by molluscs, crustaceans, and echinoderms. The inner bay had fewer species and more dominant ones compared to the outer bay. The benthic community was divided into four groups based on location and environmental factors. The distribution of animals in the bay was influenced by the amount of organic carbon in the sediment.
