Rural women in Bangladesh lead agricultural activities for sustainable future.
Women in rural areas of Bangladesh are heavily involved in agricultural activities in forest land areas. A study was conducted to understand the extent of their participation and the factors influencing it. Out of 70 women surveyed, 95.7% had high participation levels. Factors like extension media contact and access to agricultural training positively influenced their involvement. Interestingly, years of schooling and family farm size did not impact their participation. Most women felt compelled to engage in agriculture due to lack of alternatives. The study suggests that more training and exposure to extension media are needed to empower women farmers in these areas.
