Rice seedlings thrive in warmer temperatures, leading to stronger growth.
The researchers studied how different temperatures affect the growth of infant rice seedlings before transplanting. They found that seedlings raised at higher temperatures grew faster and had better root development. Seedlings raised for 10 days at 25/18°C were taller and had more leaves compared to those raised at lower temperatures. Keeping the endosperm (nutritional residue) intact also improved seedling growth after transplanting. Overall, raising seedlings for 8-12cm in height, with 1.5-1.7 leaves, and 6.9-7.5cm dry weight before transplanting led to better growth outcomes.
