Rushan Bay's Intertidal Zone Teeming with Diverse Macroorganisms, Slight Pollution Detected.
A study was done on the creatures living in the intertidal zone of Rushan Bay in May 2011. They found 116 different species, with worms being the most common. The average number of creatures per square meter was 872, and the average weight was 9.37 grams per square meter. Some of the most common species were Mediomastus sp., Helice sheni, Nemertinea, and Neanthes sp. The area showed slight pollution. The researchers grouped the study area into three different communities based on similarities. Rushan Bay had more species, smaller creatures, and more of them compared to other similar areas. The researchers suggest more studies are needed to understand how shellfish farming affects the creatures living in the intertidal zone.
