Gender Gaps Cost Balkans and Turkey 17% of Income Per Capita
Labor gender gaps in self-employment, employership, and labor force participation were studied in Balkan countries and Turkey. Women are underrepresented in these areas, leading to a 17% loss in income per capita on average. One-third of this loss is due to occupation choice differences between men and women, while the rest is from gaps in labor force participation. The biggest losses occur in the age group of 36-50 years.
