Warming Seas Threaten Coastal Communities in Yellow Sea Region
The scientists studied how heat moves in the Yellow Sea between 1981 and 1990. In winter, the ocean loses heat mainly through the sea surface due to things like sea spray and warmth escaping into the air. The heat outflow ranges from 100 to 400 in the colder months and 50 to 200 in the warmer ones. In June, the southwest Korean coasts receive the most heat. Conversely, in December, the northwestern sea near Cheju Island lets out the most heat. The amount of heat leaving the southern Yellow Sea changes more than it does in the north and central areas. Overall, the study helps us understand how heat moves in this part of the ocean throughout the year.
