Maize and peas show surprising nutrient absorption patterns in growth phases.
The study looked at how nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium accumulate in maize and peas during the early growth stages with constant mineral nutrition. They found that the growth rate decreased by half after 32 days. The levels of nitrogen and potassium in maize, and nitrogen and phosphorus in peas, decreased significantly over time. The absorption rates of these nutrients peaked at different times for each plant, with maize absorbing the most nitrogen and phosphorus after 28 days, and peas absorbing the most nitrogen and potassium after 28-30 days. The ratio of accumulated nutrients changed during growth, with maize accumulating less potassium and peas accumulating more nitrogen and potassium.
