Revolutionizing wastewater treatment with eco-friendly constructed wetlands!
Constructed wetlands are natural treatment systems that use plants and microbes to clean wastewater. A pilot unit at SRM University treated sewage water using a wetland with reeds. The unit met EPA and CPCB guidelines, with a design based on Darcy's law. Over six trials, the wetland removed around 75-76% of BOD and COD, 57-62% of TDS, nitrate, and phosphate, and 57% of potassium from the wastewater. This eco-friendly method showed good performance in improving water quality.
