Textile Mills Effluents in Karachi Exceeding Pollution Limits, Threatening Water Bodies
Textile industry effluents in Karachi contain harmful chemicals that can pollute water bodies. Effluents from nine textile mills were tested, and most samples exceeded pollution limits. Parameters like pH, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, and sulfide were much higher than recommended. Oil and Grease levels were high in some samples. Ammonia levels were within limits, except in two samples. Color intensity was significantly higher in all samples. Some samples exceeded limits for Chromium and Copper. The study shows that textile industry effluents in Karachi pose a risk to human health and the environment due to high pollution levels.
