Air transport policies are important for boosting trade between countries. The ICAO World Air Transport Conference in 2003 emphasized the need for gradual liberalization with safety measures. Discussions on liberalizing air traffic have been ongoing since the 1980s. The relationship between China and the EU-US agreement on air transport in 2007 is a good example of global air transport liberalization. This article covers liberalization in China, the Open Aviation Area between the EU and US, and the impact on other countries and airlines.
