Affordable Clean Energy for India: High-Ash Coal Transformed into Fuel
The researchers aimed to reduce the ash content in high ash non-coking coal from India to make it cleaner and more suitable for use. They used a combination of gravity separation and flotation techniques to achieve this. The coal from Vasundhara mines in Odhisa with 57% ash content was processed to obtain clean coal with 25% ash at a yield of 40%. An intermediate clean product with 49% ash at 12% yield was also produced. The final clean coal with low ash content can potentially be obtained through further chemical beneficiation.
