Florida's First Design/Build Bridge Cuts Construction Time in Half
A $12 million bridge project in Florida was completed faster than usual by using a design/build approach. The contractor and designer worked closely together to simplify the construction process, cutting months from the schedule. The bridge over Ochlockonee Bay includes specific features to make building over a sensitive tidal area easier. The project took 26 months from start to finish, compared to the usual 42 months for a linear design-to-build process. This innovative method of collaboration between the construction contractor and design subcontractor helped speed up the completion of the bridge.
