New coal process slashes electricity costs and boosts efficiency by 3.6%
The study evaluated a 300 MW power plant using a new coal process to reduce shutdowns. The new process improved efficiency by 3.6% without CO2 capture and by 2.5% with CO2 capture. The cost of electricity was lower for the new process at 0.091/kWh for the old process. The cost reduction was due to improved efficiency and lower operating costs.
