Timber bridges in rural areas need to be managed effectively for public safety. A method developed by UTS and IPWEA can test timber bridges to determine safe load capacity. Over 200 bridges have been tested using this method. Different assessment techniques like visual rating and load testing are discussed in the paper. Case studies show the benefits of testing bridges for risk management and reliable load ratings.
