The goal of the study was to develop a program that can automatically create topographic maps from digital maps, reducing the time and cost involved in manual compilation. The researchers analyzed the correlation between digital maps and 1/5,000 scale topographic maps, and developed modules for a topographic mapping program. These modules were then applied to digital maps and compared with existing topographic maps. The results showed that the automated program could successfully generate topographic maps that met the required specifications.
