Carpooling is a good way to reduce traffic by sharing a ride with others. A new model for matching people into carpool teams was tested, using both optimal and heuristic methods. The results showed that different approaches worked better for different situations. The model can help find the best carpool teams and routes. The study used the streets of Guangzhou city, China, to show how carpool teams can be formed.
