New rice farming systems improve quality of Korean native rice cultivars.
A study compared different rice farming systems in Korea and found that straw-mulched no-till systems produced better quality rice than conventional methods. The new systems resulted in better grain appearance, higher protein content, and improved mineral levels in the rice. Some Korean native rice cultivars showed more white belly and broken rice compared to recommended cultivars. Overall, the straw-mulched no-till rice cropping system stood out for its superior milled rice quality and higher protein content.
