New solar system slashes grid demand, but only benefits high users
Solar panels are popular for generating electricity at home, but they can strain the power grid. A new system combining solar panels, a Stirling engine, and a battery can help. A study of 30 households found that this system increased self-sufficiency by 30%, with households using 49% of the electricity generated. Adding a battery improved grid demand by 28% for ramp-up and 40% for ramp-down. However, the system is only cost-effective for households with high electricity use.
