High heritability in chickpea traits could revolutionize crop yields.
Genetic variation and heritability were studied in 45 chickpea genotypes. Traits like plant height, leaf size, branch number, pod characteristics, and seed yield showed high variability due to genetic factors. Some traits, like days to maturity and leaflet number, were more influenced by the environment. Seed yield, leaflet width, and branch number were mainly determined by genetic factors, while traits like plant height and pod length were influenced by both genetics and the environment. Days to maturity was mostly affected by environmental factors.
