The researchers studied the land surface temperature in Shanghai using satellite images. They found that the temperature varies across the city, with cooler areas in Pudong and warmer areas in Puxi. The coldest spot is in the south of Pudong, while the hottest areas are in the city center and parts of Baoshan and Putuo districts. The temperature differences are more random at smaller scales but become more consistent as the area being studied gets larger. The temperature is moderately correlated at 180m and 540m scales, becoming more strongly correlated at 1080m.
