Settlement assets, like commodities and state-debt, are crucial in settling debts throughout history. They should be recognized as a separate economic category alongside money. These assets, separate from regular money, have limitations in being created when needed, causing economic instability. Central bank money evolved as a predominant settlement asset due to this. In a case study, a special settlement asset based on land and enterprises helped end the German hyperinflation.
