Zero tillage boosts wheat yield by 14%, revolutionizing farming practices.
A study in West Bengal compared different ways of farming wheat and using nitrogen. They found that zero tillage, where the soil is not disturbed, led to better growth and higher yields compared to traditional and reduced tillage methods. Wheat plants were taller, had more tillers and panicles, and produced more grains under zero tillage. The crop yield was 14.29% higher with zero tillage than with conventional tillage. Applying more nitrogen also increased wheat yield, with the highest yield seen with 150 kg/ha of nitrogen. Zero tillage gave the best profit and benefit-cost ratio compared to other tillage methods.
