Heavy metal contamination in soil near zinc-mining sites impacting rice quality.
Soil near zinc-mining sites was studied to see how heavy metals like cadmium, zinc, copper, and lead are distributed. The researchers found that certain forms of cadmium and zinc in the soil were linked to pH levels, while others were related to organic matter content. The content of different metals in the soil also showed correlations with the metals found in brown rice grown in the same soil. Interestingly, lead in the soil did not seem to affect the lead content in the rice. Overall, the study shows how different forms of heavy metals in soil can impact the metals found in crops like rice.
