Wheat straw pretreatment boosts biofuel production, tackling energy crisis.
A new method was developed to make wheat straw easier to turn into sugars for making biofuels. The method involves using steam and vacuum pressure to change the structure of the straw. By testing different pressures and straw sizes, the researchers found that treating the straw at 3, 5, or 7 bar pressure for 15 minutes greatly improved the amount of sugars that could be extracted compared to untreated straw.
