Positive sea temperature anomalies intensify East Asian monsoon, weaken Indian monsoon.
Positive sea surface temperature anomalies in the mid-latitude western Pacific can impact the Asian summer monsoon. These anomalies weaken the Indian monsoon and strengthen the East Asian monsoon. This effect is opposite to positive anomalies in the equatorial western Pacific. The study used a model to simulate different scenarios and found that SST anomalies in the mid-latitude western Pacific play a significant role in influencing the Asian summer monsoon.
