Rural Landscape Management System Under Fire: Urgent Changes Needed!
The article discusses how rapid land development in Korea has harmed the natural environment, especially in rural areas. The study aimed to find ways to balance development and conservation of rural landscapes. They surveyed students and found that both landscape architecture and non-landscape majors agree that inappropriate land use is a major issue. However, they differed in identifying specific problems, with one group focusing on damaged landscapes and the other on poorly maintained settlements. The study suggests three recommendations to improve rural landscapes: establishing proper land use planning, empowering local governments to manage landscapes, and creating management plans tailored to each area's unique characteristics.
