New pea cultivar combinations promise higher yields and better quality produce!
Researchers conducted field experiments with seven pea cultivars to study the genetic information related to seed yield and other important traits. They found that heterosis, or hybrid vigor, was high for seed yield and other yield components. General combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) varied significantly among the traits, with GCA effects being more pronounced. The cultivar Alderman showed the most promising GCA effects on seed yield and yield components. Crosses involving Sugar Ann, Wando, and JI 1198 cultivars with Alderman showed the highest SCA effects on these traits.
