Degraded soil faces severe deterioration from acid rain exposure.
The study looked at how degraded chernozem soil reacts to acid rain. They simulated acid rain on soil columns and found that as the acidity increased, the soil pH decreased and chemical degradation worsened. Basic nutrients like calcium, sodium, magnesium, and potassium were mostly retained in deeper soil layers. Acid rain at higher levels caused more damage to the soil's chemical and physical properties, especially in the top layers.
