Gas shortage looming: US supply won't meet demand, imports needed.
The United States will not have enough natural gas to meet the demand from 1971 to 1990. Domestic gas production will peak in the mid-seventies and then decline. To make up for this shortage, the US will need to import gas from other countries, convert coal into gas, and get gas from Alaska. Even with these extra sources, the US will still not have enough gas to meet the demand.
