Rare plant species diversity in India's landscape sparks urgent conservation efforts
The researchers studied plant diversity in different areas in North-Central Uttar Pradesh, India. They found a total of 944 plant species in the study area, with forests having a diversity index of 4.115 and grasslands having a diversity index of 4.198. Sal forests had the highest species diversity among forests, while mesic grasslands had the highest diversity among grasslands. Shrubs contributed the most to species diversity in degenerated forests, while climbers had the least impact. The study area also contains rare and threatened plant species that need conservation efforts. The researchers aimed to understand the succession of plant communities in the area.
