Korean College Students Embrace Horizontal Individualism for Stronger Self-Identity
The study looked at how Korean college students' sense of self is related to their beliefs about individualism and collectivism. They found that being different from others was linked to valuing independence and equality, but not to valuing hierarchy. In other words, students who valued being unique and equal to others had a stronger sense of self, while those who valued hierarchy did not. This suggests that different aspects of individualism and collectivism affect how students see themselves.
