Decline in Fish Species in Asan Bay Threatens Ecosystem Stability.
Demersal fish in Asan Bay were studied from 1990 to 1993. The most common species were Cynogiossus joyneri, Thrissa koreans, and Johnius belengerii. Fish numbers were highest in spring, summer, and fall, and lowest in winter. The community structure of fish showed a clear seasonal trend related to temperature. The number of species and their abundance in Asan Bay was lower than in other areas of Korea, possibly due to unstable sediments from tidal mixing. The total number of species decreased each year, with some species becoming less common over time.
