Seasonal fluctuations in phytoplankton community impact marine ecosystem in Korea.
The researchers studied the types of tiny plants in Haechang Bay, South Korea, over four seasons. They found 77 different species, with some being more common in certain seasons. The most common species were Chaetoceros cunisetus, Skeletonema costatum, Eurampia zodiacus, Dictyocha fibula, and Ceratium furca in summer. The number of these plants varied throughout the year, with the highest amounts in summer and autumn, and the lowest in winter and spring. Overall, the bay had a diverse mix of plant species, with centric diatoms being present all year.
