Software is increasingly important in aerospace, especially for safety-critical systems. Current industry standards for avionics software development are being studied to understand why and how software fails. Langley Research Center conducted experiments over 15 years to investigate this. The goal is to improve the reliability of avionics software by creating a controlled environment for scientific experiments on software processes.
