New peanut variety blooms faster, yields more, revolutionizing agriculture.
Researchers studied different types of peanut plants to find ones with shorter flowering periods. They found that these plants flowered earlier and had smaller seeds than regular plants. While the main stem was longer, the number of branches, pods, and seed weight were lower in the short-flowering plants. The flowering duration was also shorter, with some plants flowering for only 50 days. Shading affected the rate of flowering, with fewer flowers in shaded plants. Overall, the short-flowering plants had fewer flowers but a higher rate of mature pods compared to regular plants. Warmer air temperatures were linked to more flowers, and the timing of the first flower affected the overall flowering duration.
