Investing in Malaysian unit trust families may not reduce portfolio risk.
The study looked at how investing in unit trust funds within the same family affects risk and returns for investors in Malaysia. They found that returns from funds within the same family are more closely related than those from different families, which may not reduce portfolio risk. Combining Islamic and conventional funds could lower risk, and money market funds are good for diversification. Short-term positive performance trends were seen, but they disappeared over longer periods. Star funds in a family didn't attract more investors, suggesting creating star funds may not be effective in Malaysia's investment industry.
