Stormwater solutions save wetlands, improve urban water quality
In a real neighborhood called Coomera Waters, scientists checked if special water filters can clean up stormwater. They tried out a grassy ditch, a wetland, and a big dirt pit. It turns out these filters helped slow down the water and made it less dirty. They also decreased the amount of yucky stuff like chemicals and trash in the water. Overall, these filters did a good job at cleaning the stormwater before it reached the sensitive wetlands. By using these cool tricks, the scientists made the water safer for the special plants and animals living in those wetlands.
